Interest Groups


The Roseville-South Placer AAUW Branch has interest groups that provide fellowship and intellectual growth for Branch members. Information about each group’s activities is available through Branch Lines (the monthly newsletter), emails, or telephone.

1.      Bridge

Bridge players gather in members’ homes for friendly social bridge either “party” or “duplicate.” Attendance each month is optional. Members rotate hosting the group.

2.      Book Discussions

Avid and casual readers gather monthly to discuss the group’s chosen selection: fiction or non-fiction in paperback. Three groups are offered.

3.      Casual Gardeners

Members gather to share gardening experiences, mutual interests and to enjoy group outings.

When: Usually 1st Wednesday, 10:00am [However, the days do vary.]

4.      Couples Dinner Group

Members and spouses/partners gather in a member’s home with contributions by all couples to the host’s selected menu. The group may be subdivided to accommodate everyone in the hosts’ homes – the menu being the same if there is more than one group that evening.

5.      Women’s Gourmet

Members enjoy an evening of gourmet socializing. The hostess sets the menu and prepares the entrée; others bring assigned contributions.

6.      Great Decisions

Topics vary from world issues such as global health, civil wars abroad, economic growth in developing countries to other world issues that affect our lives. A book and accompanying video is the source for research, presentations and discussion.

7.      Hand and Foot Cards

Members play Hand and Foot using easy-to-learn rules. New and experienced players are welcomed.  Players may bring their own snacks; beverages are provided for you.

8.      Mah Jongg

Members play the American version. New and experienced players are welcome [teaching/instructions available each week].

Enjoy a friendly game of Scrabble in a member’s home.

10.  Wine Appreciation

Members and partners/friends participate in various wine-tasting events in Northern California wineries, in members’ homes, or at other venues, sharing wines and food in informal social gatherings.

11.  Mexican Train

Enjoy a friendly game of Mexican Train in a member’s home

12. Movies on Monday

Bring your brown-bag lunch plus $2 for expenses and enjoy socializing with other members as you watch and discuss an engaging film. Many great choices are planned  for the coming year.

13. Women of the World

Members learn about issues that women throughout the world face every day by reading books and articles and through discussion.

14. Smart eGals

Members will meet by contact the chair and arranging a time to bring portable technology to a gathering to share questions and answers and learn to use their smart phones, tablet, laptops, etc.  There is no set meeting day/time.

15. New Member Interest Group

New members, their mentors or other interested Branch members meet at various times and in various venues to learn more about AAUW Roseville-South Placer.  Events might include branch members or officers making presentations or just social gatherings to welcome new members and help them get to know one another and other Branch members.

16. Nine and Wine

A new interest group for beginning to intermediate golfers who want to play nine holes of golf (keeping score is optional) followed by a Happy Hour.

When: 2nd and 4th Thursdays at 2:00 p.m.
